Comfort and Elegance

Having comfort and elegance together is a gift we often do not receive.

With Butterick 5606, a knit pattern I picked up last year, this proves that one can have elegance and be comfortable at the same time.

I used a very thin but weighty rayon lycra knit from Kashi in NYC.

The secret to creating some stability on this neckline was to add a folded band of self fabric, and then twin-needle it (I used a coverstitch) for extra measure. You'll see below that I used the self-fabric at the neckline, but simply turned and stitched at the armholes. I did have to reduce the armhole circumference a total of 1/2 inch on each armhole to get rid of gaping.

I wore this to work today, and it was a bit "on the edge" for my conservative workplace, being sleeveless, but I think the jewelry and high heels (not shown here, as I'm in my commuting shoes) made it acceptable.

  1. Yes, elegant--and it does look comfortable. Is the rayon solid, or slightly heathered? It's a beautiful color.

  2. Thanks, Patti - the knit is slightly heathered with grey and navy blue. It goes very well with my new ink blue/purple handbag!
