Christine Jonson Travel Trio 2 Funnel Neck Top

In cold weather, a good layering piece is always a good thing to have. A very simple piece is this, from Christine Jonson's Travel Trio 2. This is meant to be a close fitting top, but I made mine a bit loose, as the fabric is a fine wool knit. Wool, even super-fine merino, often makes me 'itch', when it's next to my skin, but I can avoid that for the most part if I make the garment loose. Plus, wool is, as all of us know, a super-insulating fiber, which does a nice job of 'wicking' moisture away from the skin. Those legendary arctic explorers of yore always wore wool underwear, in the days before Polartec and such.

I'm using this as a base layer, to wear under jumpers, jackets, and the like. If I were going to wear it by itself, I would have probably nipped it in at the waistline.

The neckline on this pattern is wonderful. It's a simple funnel neck that is turned in on itself. The pattern is drafted well, and I like the touch of using self-fabric ribbing at the sleeve hem.
