Town and Country

"Town and Country" is Nick's new term for stuff I make (and wear) that is in his view, wearable in both rural and urban settings. Actually, the statement started out as a joke yesterday. We went for a 10 mile hike on the Appalachian Trail, and I wore a pair of silver earrings. He looked at me around mile 6 and said, "Town and Country". I guess you could say the earrings 'dressed up' my hiking regalia.

In Nick's view, this shirt is "Town and Country". It's from Burda Style magazine, May 2010 issue, number 118, which is featured on the front cover. The shirt is designed for a very thin fabric, like cotton voile. I used thicker cotton fabric, from Metro Textile (Mr. Kashi) in New York.

My buttons are old - they're from Nick's mom, and the package was labeled $.29 for six plastic buttons on a card. I thought the blue popped nicely.

I lengthened the sleeves and am planning on using this shirt mainly as a second layer, or overjacket. It should serve well this coming end-of-summer into autumn.

Very cute and different. Thanks for posting. I always love seeing what other people do with Burda, especially. I have trouble picking patterns when I get my issue, but once someone makes something, then I recognize a winner. No two alike, that's for sure.

It's always good to have a way to describe your style! Nice job on the shirt.
