Hot Patterns 105 Shirt

My husband liked the lengthened version of this pattern SO much that I had to try it in a shirt!

This is view A of Hot Patterns 105. It's a shirt with elasticized sleeves and neckline. I used 1 inch elastic (instead of the 3/4 inch called for) because that's what I had on hand.

The fabric is a combination of silk knit (most of the shirt is constructed of this) and silk georgette (the first ruffle is made of this). The fabric came from Metro Textile in NYC (Kashi).

At the neckline, I left the seam (raglan) open at upper left, and superimposed a ribbon on top of the elastic. Then I tied the ribbon. That way, I have a ribbon trim that is functional. It actually works to make the neckline a bit smaller if that's what I want to do while wearing. Conversely, of course, I can use this feature to show a bit more skin if I wish.

At the hem, you'll see the top ruffle is of sheer georgette in a complementary fabric. I used a three thread narrow serged hem on the ruffles.

I made this top to wear with my black pantsuit and 3 inch heels. The suit is standard issue "Ann Taylor". The top jazzes the outfit up a bit!

The fabric has a fine, drapy hand that allows the top to flow with the body, in a nice way.

While working on this project, I kept thinking of, "She Blinded Me With Science", by Thomas Dolby. 1980-something. "...She's Poetry In Motion...". Check it out!

Lovely blouse, Barbara. Oh yes...I remember that song and clearly see myself dancing to it.

Such a cute shirt! I've never noticed it on the Hot Patterns site . . . I'll have to look it up! That color is lovely on you.
