10 Years Ago Today...

Liana tagged me, so here I go!

WHAT WAS I DOING 10 YEARS AGO?
I was probably visiting one of our National Parks. The company I used to work for operated interpretive stores at over 130 national parks in the US. I was Director of HR for that company. I solicited for myself the ancillary duty of "internal auditor" so I could get out of the office more. Which meant that I got to be on the team to travel around, check the books, count the money, and most importantly for me, talk to the people who operated the parks and who operated the stores. I may have been at Cape Lookout. Or Cape Hatteras. Or even Gettysburg. At Gettysburg, we had over 70 employees at one time. I spent a lot of time in Gettysburg. My car knew the way. 2 1/2 hours each way on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

WHAT ARE 5 THINGS ON MY TO-DO LIST TODAY? These are all done, except for number (5).... as it is almost 8 PM now....
1. (Work) Ensure that one of our high level people get the distribution they need from my firm's 401(k) plan.
2. (Work) Solicit feedback on the performance appraisal system (a management-by-objectives standard) that I designed for our executive management team.
3. (Personal) Go running with Nick. We did this already at 5:20 AM this morning. We do this every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I run 10 miles per week for maintenance...and am also working on developing aerobic capacity for my participation in the MS Bike to Shore ride. If you would like to sponsor me, I'd appreciate it!
4. (Personal) Clean the birdbath and plant two pepper plants in my vegetable garden.
5. (Personal) Rip out some neckline stitches on a dress I'm making. (*Yuk). I may not get to that one. Instead, I think I'll watch a movie. "Moliere", 2007. From Netflix. Yes!

SNACKS I ENJOY:
1. Clams on the half shell. Raw. (I ate one tonight-from Barnegat Bay, NJ where Nick and I kayaked yesterday.)
2. Popcorn. No butter. Some salt. Crunch and yum. (Will eat while watching "Moliere".)

THINGS I WOULD DO IF I WERE A BILLIONAIRE:
It is interesting that this does not ask what we'd do if we were a "Millionaire". Used to be that "millionaire" was a great achievement. I'm currently reading Richistan by Robert Frank. This book clarifies the fact that to be truly "rich", one must have a net worth of way over $1MM. More like a Billion! So if I were a Billionaire, I'd probably be doing the exact same thing I'm doing now. Going to work and trying to make myself useful. Taking care of two cats. Married to Nick. Yep. That's me.

PLACES I HAVE LIVED:
El Paso, Texas. Wuerzburg, Germany. Doylestown, PA. Augusta, GA.

WHAT TYPE(S) OF WORK HAVE I DONE?
Waitress (cocktail and food). Construction laborer (at 50 cents per hour in 1972, working for my Dad.) I carried bricks for the stonemason and mixed mortar. US Army Officer (during the Cold War - reference living in Germany, above), Factory Worker (I assembled flourescent light sockets), office clerk, Human Resource Director (that's me, now).

OK, NOW I'M SUPPOSED TO TAG OTHERS...

But I'm not gonna. This was hard work, and I'm going to keep it local, not global.

Fascinating! I knew you were a busy, talented and interesting woman, but you have raised the bar for a lot of us. I thought that millionaire/billionaire thing was interesting too. No one seems to think $1M is any big deal anymore. I don't think I'd sneeze at it! :)

Clams on the half-shell? I didn't know they were served that way. Oysters are so darned good that way that I'm open to other possibilities.

You made me smile.

10 years ago, I was working for the NPS & Easter National, so you brought back fond memories!
