...now which one will it be?

Sarong...or shorts? Both, with this free download courtesy of our friends at fabric.com and Hot Patterns.

Here's my version. I used an ancient black jacquard, acquired back in 2000 or was it 1999 as a free fabric bundle from Fabric Mart. It's acetate. It drapes decently, which is imperative, in my opinion, for this design.

This garment was very easy to put together. The hardest part was taping the 8 1/2 by 11 inch sheets of paper together (which is how the pattern prints out).

Let's see....tips. I used a serged hem instead of doing a regular straight stitched hem. I shaved about 5/8 inch off the hem when serging. I recommend you use a fabric that looks the same on the wrong side as the right side, as the sarong does show on the wrong side when wearing. I did not shorten the hem, but I am thinking I might shave one inch off these babies before they're ready for prime time. But then again, it's wearable, and with high heels, what the heck. I don't want to invest more time in this thing. Remember, I'm 5 feet 9 inches tall, with most of my height in my legs. Note the length on me before you make this.

The elastic waistband is not my friend. I usually avoid elastic waistbands, because they, well...they enlarge my waistline. But I made an exception here.

I'm planning to wear this with black high heeled sandals and a black top to go out clubbing (such as I do...) at the shore this summer.

Here are Snowy and Smokey testing the garment to ensure it's wearable. More on Smokey and Snowy later...they joined Cat Fur Studio a month ago, and they've for sure livened up the place!

I've been looking at these and wondering if I need to make them up. Yes! I do, but thanks for the heads up about the length. I hope mine turns out as nice as yours did.

I think I may make these in a jersey for summer. They really do require a lot of drape-ability, but I don't want the fabric to be too hot for the warm weather. That is, if we ever get any warm weather around here. :)
