New York Buying Trip

Today, three sewing friends from Philadelphia and I had a great fabric shopping day in New York. We went to B & J, Mood, and Metro.

At Metro Textile (Kashi's), we met up with some PACC members who also just happened to be in the area! I am not a member of PACC now, but remembered some of the women, and had a great time catching up with them.

After lunch at Mr. Broadway, we proceeded down to the Museum at FIT Exhibit featuring Chado Ralph Rucci. Before today, I had never had the opportunity to see Rucci's work up close. Truly, this work was of the highest quality, the designs well thought out, and really, I can say that these clothes are as a group, some of the best executed I've ever seen. And I've been to a lot of fashion exhibits in my life in New York, London, Paris, and so on, so I know whereof I speak. The exhibit closes tomorrow, so I am glad I got to see it today!

Another highlight of this trip was an introduction by one of my friends to her teacher, Miss Alice of Sapho School of Dressmaking and Design. Miss Alice runs a small and excellent school and has done so for years. If I could quit my day job and just sew, sew, sew, I would enroll immediately in her school, for the chance to learn at this woman's very learned and dedicated knee.

I'll leave you with a photo of the fabric I acquired on this trip:

Noooo, I need detailed shots! So glad that you got to Kashi's and so glad that you brought home another haul. Wasn't the Ralph Rucci exhibit absolutely beautiful!? Glad you had a good day and sorry I couldn't join you!

I've heard so much about Metro Fabrics! I am going to try (very hard) to get there this summer. I'm in the greater Philadelphia area and it's an easy train ride to NYC. Metro Fabrics is my next fabric store quest.

Hey, I recognize that Pucci-esque charmeuse! Be warned, it is heaven to work with, but it doesn't like fusibles! :) I'm so sad I wasn't able to meet you, but next time I'll definitely be there!

Oooo, sounds like a fabulous day. Wasn't the Rucci exhibit fabulous! The detail and quality of his work always amazes me.

Sorry I couldn't make it. Life has been out of control of late.
